Steve Pfann, Ocean Casino Resort’s Senior Vice President of Gaming, knows a thing or two about casinos. With many years of experience in the industry, Steve has seen the evolution of players and the games they love. He’s breaking down Spanish 21, a popular card game that has a little more flair than your usual blackjack table.
While the casino floor at Ocean Casino Resort consists of fan-favorite tables such as roulette, blackjack, and craps, some players still find themselves looking for a new type of casino excitement. A game like Spanish 21, is very similar to Blackjack, but with some twists that make it a little more fun for the player.
Spanish 21 has an end result that is similar to its sister card-game blackjack with the objective being to draw cards that come closer to 21 than the dealer. All cards count at face value and jacks, queens, & kings value at 10. Traditional table actions are still used in Spanish 21: hit, stand, spilt, and double. There are, however, some significant differences:
- To start, in Spanish 21, all number “10” cards are removed from the deck, leaving each deck with a total of 48 cards
- Players blackjack always wins – even when the dealer has a blackjack
- Players hand total of 21 is paid immediately, regardless of the dealers hand or outcome. Certain player “21” totals result in additional Spanish 21 bonus payouts
- Players may split cards of equal value (including aces) for a total of 4 hands. Hitting and doubling of split hands, including aces, is allowed.
At Ocean Casino Resort, our dealers are happy to explain the rules of the game if needed. Mix it up the next time you hit the tables and try other games like High Card Flush, Let It Ride, Mississippi Stud, and more.
