  • Steve Aoki Takes The Decks At HQ2 On March 12th; Check Out Some Of Our Favorite Aoki Tracks

When dance floor legends are mentioned,, Steve Aoki, is one of the most frequently included names. The two-time Grammy nominated artist/DJ/producer has crossed musical boundaries throughout his seven albums, collaborating with everyone from, Maluma, to, Rob Thomas, to, Cardi B, , among legions of others. Also a philanthropist, Aoki has founded both, The Aoki Foundation, (which supports organizations in the area of brain science research) and is also venturing into launching his own artists, under the, Dim Mak,  record label. This Saturday March 12th, Steve Aoki is returning to HQ2 for a much anticipated set, where we can expect to hear not just crowd favorite tracks, but some hidden gems from the vault. Here, we grabbed some of our own favorite tracks and you'll quickly see why an evening with Steve Aoki at HQ2 is never a night to be missed.  Artists frequently look to collaborate with artists like…, Rita Ora, Cardi B, Bebe Rexhia and Charli XCX, on an all-star girl power anthem), creating a haunting and wonderfully reimagined version of the original. His maneuvering of the artist’s vocals puts a fresh spin on a crowd favorite, but letting artists like Cardi B continue to shine through displayed Aoki’s true production prowess.   Spotify   There is nothing like hearing some classics on the dance floor to truly set the tone for the evening…, George Benson’s, 1980 infectious single “Give Me The Night” is one of those tracks, personified. While the original is already a favorite, putting this track in the hands of Steve Aoki totally recreates it into something fresh and almost brand new. Various percussion elements along with some true production wizardry still give that feeling of extreme familiarity when hearing Benson’s signature vocals, but having…, The Backstreet Boys, quickly showed any detractors exactly why their partnership created a rare musical moment. The track “Let It Be Me” (from Aoki’s stunning 2020 album Neon Future ) manages to showcase the familiar hook-heavy pop music the Backstreet Boys are so familiar and beloved for, but manages to thread so many of the production elements that Aoki tracks are known for. While not a throbbing bass-heavy track,…, Darren Criss, teamed up with Steve Aoki for a stunning recreation of, The Dave Matthews Band,  anthem “Crash Into Me” (showcased on Aoki’s Neon Future IV album). While it may seem like an unexpected pairing, Aoki managed to mold Criss’ vocals into a true dance floor powerhouse track. The drops come at just the perfect time, showcasing Criss’ familiar verses, yet at the same time, putting Aoki’s own stamp on the track, with the combined efforts resulting in a musical treat (the bridge is…, Grandson, and , Jasiah, . Dabbling in a bit of a harder sound, “Kult” is a refreshing direction for Aoki to take, with vocals traded by both Grandson and Jasiah, with the backdrop of thrashing guitars behind them. With both Grandson and Jasiah already as fans, the admiration is most definitely mutual, with Aoki saying in a press release "‘KULT’ is the first taste from my upcoming album and showcases some of the new and…, For more information, check out theoceanac.com, For more info on Steve Aoki, check him out on his website

  • Tommy Brunett Visits Villain & Saint For A Night Of Music & Whiskey

Going from playing guitar for globally known 80's band (Modern English) to becoming one of the founders of Iron Smoke Distillery may seem like an unusual path, but for, Tommy Brunett, it has been a natural progression. The hard work and dedication he put in on guitar riffs is equal to his attention to detail on both the Iron Smoke and Rattlesnake Rosie's brands, and he's visiting Villain & Saint on March 21st for a night of ", Villains, Saints, & Whiskey", . Expect copious amounts of live music and whiskey poured, as Brunett himself performs a live set throughout Chef Jorge Baretto's four-course feast, paired with cocktails inspired by Iron Smoke Distillery. We sat down with Tommy Brunett to talk about his memories from the Modern English days, what it took for him to get to the top of the whiskey industry, and what lessons he's taken from the…, How does a rock-n-roll guitarist with the band Modern English go on to become one of the people behind Iron Smoke Distillery? , Tommy Burnett: It is crazy! I was living in New York City in 2008 and the bottom fell out of the economy. I decided to move back to Rochester NY where I am from to regroup, and maybe go to Nashville and pick up a tour or something. We rented a house and I was in the backyard smoking ribs and drinking whiskey and my kids were in diapers. I thought of putting two great American pastimes together;…,  , As time went on, what was it like to transfer your passion for music onto whiskey, or are you able to keep a balance for both? ,   TB: The good thing is that I tell people that I am a musician that found a loophole (laughs)! I don't have to tour, I can be home with my family. I got , The Tommy Brunett Band, , that is like Johnny Cash meets rock. We are a solid opener, groups like ZZ Top likes us and we have played with The Lumineers. We get up there and preach about the whiskey and go through out sets, and it all works out really well and is a great mix. We have a great team around us, and it takes a village to make one bottle of booze, especially bourbon.  , MC: Your appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon still is a unique and for you, a probably incredibly memorable moment. ,   TB: Oh yeah, he has actually come out to our distillery. I became friends with him through other friends, and that is the night that, Post Malone,,  myself and, Jimmy Fallon, hung out. It was ridiculous, we ended up in a tiny Irish bar in Manhattan playing songs. I didn't know who Post Malone was, but he knew the words to every song we were throwing down. From Neil Diamond to Johnny Cash to Dolly Parton to Frank Sinatra, he knew the words to everything! It was so refreshing and he deserves every little bit of success he has gotten.  , MC: When you see others partnering with a liquor company and you conversely are putting in the hard work on the ground level, can it ever be frustrating for you?,   TB: When someone comes out with a fifteen year old bourbon and they opened their distillery four years ago, yeah. We have things like the Rosie’s line, which is premium. We have apple pie, maple bacon, and we just came out with a chocolate peanut butter pie bourbon cream that people are freaking out about. We have two lines and we never cut corners, we make everything ourselves. We are a farm…, MC: Traveling with Modern English in the 1980’s you probably learned quickly that hard work pays off and there is not a quick path to success. ,   TB: I couldn’t have said it better myself. We did a partnership with, John Petrucci, of the band Dream Theater and he was looking for someone to do a bourbon with. He chose ours because he liked the strength, and he said  “it is like being a musician, you are always striving for perfection ”. That is our approach to the bourbon so it is really familiar. You can’t just go out and be good, you have to learn everything about it.  , MC: As someone so well-known as the guitarist for Modern English on the road, you still must get people that are such massive fans and filled with such nostalgia…,   TB: Yeah, it definitely doesn’t hurt. I was the touring guitar player, that was my first lucky break, they were all from England. The song "I Melt With You" was starting to really grow and become a hit. I got a call to audition and a week later, it was the Today Show , The Tonight Show , 30,000 people a night, it truly changed my life. That was the lucky break that they talk about. I love that…, Robbie Grey, taught me a lot. I never leave a wedding without playing that song. I was literally making a record and eating a Snickers bar for lunch and half for dinner. I got the call to audition, walked in, and David Bowie was rehearing in the studio next door; it was like  “don't blow this one dude”! I got in and Robbie took me under his wing and made it easy on me.  , For more info, go to theoceanac.com,

The New Jersey based trio known as, Cash Cash, might be globally renowned, but there is something about playing to a hometown dance floor that adds an extra layer of anticipation to their visit to HQ2 Nightclub this weekend, Saturday March 19th, Whether they are crafting their own tracks for artists like, P!nk, or remixing everyone from, Katy Perry, to, Andy Grammar, , Cash Cash have found that balance between their EDM roots and putting their signature touch on commercially spectacular projects. Quite simply, there is absolutely nothing like a classic. Cash Cash' collaboration with…, P!nk,,  , Ryan Tedder, and Cash Cash themselves) offer up a bit of nostalgia packaged perfectly with stunning synths and throbbing baselines.  Known so well for their own productions, Cash Cash sometimes hit the studio and toss their masterful remixing skills onto a production by another well-known artist, resulting in a glorious musical moment. Recreating, Kelly Clarkson's, "Catch My Breath" for the dance floors could seem like an arduous task, but in the hands of these Jersey remix masters, the track's transition to an electronica dance stomper is seamless. Clarkson's vocals stay front and center, but are given a glittering rework with drops and build ups at just the right moments in the track, with extended verses, offering up some true dance floor moments with…, Wiz Khalifa, and, Lukas Graham', s track "Too Late" is one of those moments, completely amplified in the hands of Cash Cash. Showcasing the vocals on both Khalifa and Graham while at the same time putting their patented stamp on the track creates a gorgeous balance on the track. The builds and vocal trickery on the tracks are perfectly in line with the vibe of the track, making a moment to slow down and simply revel in the…, Bebe Rexhia's, seductive and slick vocals are welcome on any track she's showcased on, but "Too Late" was many people's introduction to her on the dance floor. Cash Cash managed to put bold and theatric sounds behind this equally larger than life, crafting a template that many artists since have followed to bring attention to artists on the dance floor. A favorite for longtime Cash Cash fans, it almost is not a…, Conor Maynard, ) a refreshed and totally welcome sound. Maynard's vocals stay firmly in place, structured around lush percussion and sweeping vocal effects, giving the track and almost ethereal quality.
