Ocean Celebrates International Women’s Day; Announces $5,000 in Scholarships

International Women’s Day celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.  At Ocean, we realize the many important achievements women have made in leading and driving change and how important fostering the future of women is in forging equality.  In recognition of International Women’s Day, Ocean is proud to announce it will be awarding five (5)  $1,000 scholarships to Atlantic City High School seniors who can communicate (via essay) the positive difference a woman has made either broadly to society or to themselves personally. The scholarships are open to all Atlantic City High School 2022 graduating seniors with plans to further their education at a college, university or trade program.  The scholarship essay will focus on the impact women have had in past history or current events, or spotlight a woman who has significantly influenced the life of the student. The initiative will begin today and applications will continue through April 30, 2022. Ocean is also providing lunch to the women at two of our community partner locations -- Adelaide’s Place and Avanzar.  Both organizations are vital to the Atlantic City community in supporting and lifting up women in crisis.  Ocean’s culinary team created individual boxed lunches for the women who utilize these organizations for help on a daily basis.  At Ocean, we applaud the work and assistance provided at Adelaide’s Place and Avanzar for at-risk women in Atlantic City.

Adelaide’s Place 

• • A day center for homeless and at-risk women in Atlantic City.  Adelaide’s Place provides a safe place for women to come to during the day and offers services such as: linkages to other agencies for health and housing services, life skills, arts and crafts activities, coffee and snacks, clothing, toiletries and a place to do laundry.

Avanzar

• • Launched as a 24-hour rape and sexual assault counseling hotline and has evolved into a social justice service organization supporting those effected by domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and displaced homemakers. Avanzar provides vital services to victims and survivors while providing safety, working for just causes and empowering individuals, families and communities.
