Summer remains an endlessly active time for kids all over New Jersey, and that includes the kids at The Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City. As part of our ongoing commitment to both partner with and collaborate with local community organizations, Ocean Casino Resort‘s work with The Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City remains paramount (as of 2020, the BGC of Atlantic City was serving 1,300 local youth at three facilities).
Keeping kids engaged and active during the summer can be a challenge, but thankfully four of the talented Ocean Casino Resort chefs are participating in summer culinary clubs for The Boys & Girls Club. The classes kicked off on July 23rd, where the kids were taught the basics of baking in the form of decadent breakfast pastries. They got a chance to make banana chocolate chip muffins along with blueberry lemon scones, courtesy of locally sourced blueberries (direct from Hammonton, NJ). The following week, the burgeoning bakers got first hand lessons from the masters on preparing a sponge cake, fresh butter cream, and cookies. The kids also got to participate in a cooking class, learning how to prepare fried chicken sandwiches from Ocean’s very own Villain & Saint Chef Jorge Barreto.
Earlier this summer, Ocean Casino Resort and owner, Luxor Capital Group, donated a combined $10,000 to support The Boys & Girls Club’s summer STEAM Lab program, as part of Ocean Casino’s $15 million dollar community reinvestment. The Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics educational programs are available at all three locations of the Boys & Girls Club and give kids opportunities to do everything from building circuits, work on music and video production, and learning to code.
