Covenant House Atlantic City Holds Their 'Sleep Out' & Raises $245,000

Published: November 2021
Throughout New Jersey, Covenant House has locations that provide sanctuary and support for youth ages 18-21 facing homelessness and human trafficking. The Garden State locations can be found in both Northern New Jersey-- Asbury Park, Jersey City--and also in Southern New Jersey, including the Atlantic  City location, which Ocean Casino Resort remains a proud supporter. Covenant House New Jersey offers their free services to youth annually which include everything from mental health care to education assistance. Covenant House also is a safe space for the LGBTQ community, who also find both homelessness and healthcare access to be a consistent issue. This year, Covenant House held their annual Sleep Out, which gives participants and entirely new and first-hand perspective on youth homelessness.

The Sleep Out to benefit the Covenant House was held on November 12th, 2021, and while this year’s Sleep Out was a virtual one, it did not diminish the mission that Covenant House works to fulfill with this initiative. Conducted in solidarity with the 2,500 young people annually that arrive at Covenant House looking for assistance, Sleep Out works to raise the awareness that is crucial for the plight of homeless youth. During Sleep Out, attendees participated in a live interactive online program with Covenant House staff and fellow Sleepers nationwide.

While Ocean remains a loyal sponsor of Covenant House in Atlantic City’s programs, this year one of our executives stepped up to the plate personally. Chris O’Connor, Vice President of Player Development, gave up his own bed for the evening and slept outside in a box, all to raise awareness for homeless youth in Atlantic City. Sleep Out this year raised $11,829.00 for the Covenant House. In addition, Chris was named Rookie of the Year by the Covenant House, which also named him as the Sleep Out participant who raised the most money. This year, the seventy five Sleep Out participants raised $245,771.00 to benefit Covenant House Atlantic City.
