The Trevor Project Provides Crucial Support To LGBTQ Youth

Founded in 1998 in West Hollywood, California, The Trevor Project focuses on suicide prevention and crisis intervention efforts for LGBTQ youth. The Trevor Lifeline remains one of the tentpoles of the organization, which is a toll-free phone number that offers services to at-risk LGBTQ youth through counselors trained in crisis intervention and suicide prevention. They also aim to provide both parents and educators the ability to offer safe and inclusive environments for all youth at school and at home.

The efforts of The Trevor Project have caught the eye of a galaxy of high-profile names, with people like Lady Gaga, Leann Rimes, and Darren Criss participating in the TrevorLIVE events, held on two separate coasts annually. Collectively, the New York and Los Angeles events have raised millions of dollars to support the work the organization does for the LGBTQ youth community.

As part of our Season Of Giving initiative, Ocean is a proud supporter of both The Trevor Project, as well as hosted Daytime Emmy-winner Anthony Wilkinson and his stage production of My Big Gay Italian Christmas. Wilkinson considers The Trevor Project one of his own passion projects, and Ocean made a donation of their own to The Trevor Project, in conjunction with the ultra-successful Ocean Pride Happy Hour held the same weekend.

Most recently, The Trevor Project launched an AI-powered training tool that stimulates digital conversations with LGBTQ youth (in partnership with Google) and continued their partnership with H&M, which matched donations up to $100,000 on Giving Tuesday. This past season, Las Vegas Raider Carl Nassib (and the only out LGBTQ football player in the NFL) wore cleats in support of The Trevor Project during the NFL’s My Cause My Cleats campaign. This past fall, The Trevor Project awarded Lil Nas X their inaugural Suicide Prevention Advocate of the Year Award.

According to The Trevor Project's National Survey on LGBTQ Youth Mental Health, 42% of LGBTQ youth seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year, including more than half of transgender and nonbinary youth. For more information on The Trevor Project, click here.
