Ocean Casino Resort Commemorates 9/11 & Pays Homage To Community Members Return to BlogPublished: September 2021 20 years later, the impact and affect that the events of September 11th had on our country and local community still reverberate. The Atlantic City area itself was personally affected, as our community lost several members on that tragic day. It is with this in mind, that Ocean Casino Resort made a donation to the Saracini-O'Neill Atlantic City 9/11 Memorial, as the 20th anniversary was commemorated in a ceremony honoring those who perished. In addition to a donation, Ocean team members volunteered their time to great guests and distribute American flags to those attending the ceremony. The ceremony itself included a keynote address about Victor Saracini and John O'Neill, both of which were local community losses during 9/11---Saracini was a pilot of Flight 175, while O'Neill was the Director of Security at the World Trade Center. While somber in tone, the day was meaningful and patriotic, with the Atlantic City Sandpipers Pipes and Drums performing. Additionally, a specially crafted forty-ton sand sculpture, by world-renowned artist John Gowdy, was made specifically for the occasion. The event culminated with a three volley rifle salute, followed by Last Salute’s three-round Civil War Cannon volley, alongside Last Salute’s Memorial flag presentation.
