As a member of the Chicago White Sox and the Oakland Athletics (among other teams) during his storied baseball career, Chris Singleton knows a great deal about sportsmanship and what it takes to be a team player. It was the tragic and sudden loss of his mother during a nationwide tragedy though, that took his passion from the baseball field to the speaking engagement circuit, where he is able to speak eloquently and personally about faith, diversity, and ultimately, forgiveness.

During his recent speaking engagement at the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City Teen Center (as part of the Unity Speaking Series), Singleton delivered his message to a room of 50 Club Kids who were in attendance (with 150 Club Kids viewing via Zoom), as well as via a live stream to over 1000 viewers). A longtime community partner, Ocean Casino Resort partnered with the Boys & Girls Club on this event, with our audio/visual team on-hand to both set up the event and oversee the streaming portion.

Held at the B&GC Teen Center, the Club Kids (and those viewing at home) had the chance to ask Singleton questions live in person, getting some one- on-one time with this remarkable and inspiring public speaker. After delivering his compelling hour-long message and Q&A, Chris hit the court with the kids to play basketball. Of course, Singleton was also more than happy to offer up some invaluable baseball pointers to the kids as well.

Stephanie Koch, CEO of Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City spoke at length about Singleton’s visit, saying: “The inspiration Chris Singleton’s visit brought to our Club Kids was obvious last night.  The feeling of unity, pride in one’s identity and recognition of one another’s experience was chanted, and all while embracing Chris’s message of ‘LOVE is stronger than HATE.’  Along with our Club Kids, over 1000 viewers have tuned in, to hear a common message and embrace a common language, all thanks to our partners at the CRDA and Ocean Casino & Resort.  Thanks to Ocean’s technical elevation of filming sound and video, while also ensuring top quality streaming, this critical message was carried across our 48 blocks. Our partnership, is exemplary of Chris’s message.  As a community, we need to consider the way we respond to events and now, as we rebound from the COVID Pandemic, is the most critical time to stand together as one, unified and steadfast.”
